FEMA Disaster Recovery Centers to open in Humacao and Mayagüez
SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico – Two FEMA/Government of Puerto Rico Disaster Recovery Center (DRCs) will open in Puerto Rico on Saturday, October 21. One is in Humacao and the other in Mayagüez.
DRCs serve homeowners, renters and business owners who sustained damage as a result of Hurricane Maria. Specialists from the Government of Puerto Rico and municipalities, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), nongovernmental organizations and the local community, will be on hand to help survivors register for assistance, answer questions and provide information on the types of assistance available to survivors. Services are provided in English and Spanish.

Registering with FEMA is the first step toward qualifying for disaster assistance which may include grants to help homeowners and renters pay for temporary housing, essential home repairs, personal property replacements and other serious disaster-related needs not covered by insurance.

The SBA is the federal government’s primary source of money for the long-term rebuilding of disaster-damaged property. SBA helps businesses of all sizes, private non-profit organizations, homeowners and renters, which can cover the cost of replacing lost or disaster-damaged real estate and personal property. These disaster loans cover losses not fully compensated by insurance or other recoveries and do not duplicate benefits of other agencies or organizations.
