May 26, 2009 President Barack Obama nominated Federal Appeals judge Sonia Sotomayor as his choice to be the next Supreme Court Judge making her the first Hispanic in history picked to be Supreme Court Judge. While it looks unlikely that Republicans will block President Obama’s first Supreme Court pick, some senators continue to raise questions about Sonia Sotomayor. The battle begins with confirmation hearings scheduled to start in just three days on Monday July 13, 2009.
I didn’t realize they were actually going to show the hearings on TV. It’s pretty interesting. All of the Democrats seem to be for Sonia Sotomayor and all the Republicans seem to be against her, but everyone is talking about impartiality. So does that mean that only Republican nominated judges are impartial? If that’s true, then are the Democratic judges all biased?
I believe that this can have a real impact on the voting to confirm the Supreme court nominee and also any future bills presented before the senate that ae to be voeted upon. This can cuase a real swing in the control for the senate
Does the republicans taking over the NY State Senate have any affect on the majority the Democrats have in the US Senate?
