Nuyorican (New York-born Puerto Rican) William “Willie” Anthony Colón Román was born in the South Bronx in 1950 to Nuyorican/Puerto Rican parents and Puerto Rican grandparents.  Willie Colon was born in the South Bronx, New York, to Puerto Rican parents.

Colón is considered a pioneer of Salsa music and a best-selling artist in the genre, having been a key figure in the nascent New York City scene associated with the legendary Fania Records. He is also noteworthy for having assumed the gangster image in his album covers before it was culturally popular.

After more than ten years from the release of his last CD, Willie Colon is back with a new album called “EL MALO, Vol. 2: Prisioneros del Mambo”.  The album has 13 songs with some of Willie’s trademark sound.  He was able to do a little bit of everything, sing, chorus, play trumpet, trombone and also compose and arrange his own songs.  The CD is released on Willie’s own label, “LONE WOLF” and is being sold on Amazon, local stores and at www.williecolon.com.
