In 1937, Rafael Hernández (October 24, 1892 – December 11, 1965), one of the most important composers of Puerto Rican popular music during the 20th century, wrote one of his greatest works, “Preciosa”.
It is a romantic song, not about a woman, but rather about his native Island of Puerto Rico also known by the native Tainos as Boriken which the Spaniards translated to Borinquen. Many artists have through the years interpreted this Classic, but Marc Anthony’s rendition is the very best. Many consider “Preciosa” to be the National Anthem.
