The parade was loud and colorful. There was a lot of cheering and celebrating, especially any time someone said the word “Boricua”. The crowd would go crazy! The marchers represented all of the uniform services in the city: The Police Department, State Troopers, Fire Department, Sanitation Department, Correction and The NY/NJ Port Authority. There were marching bands representing the many different towns of Puerto Rico. On the floats, there were famous singers, t.v. stars, radio and news stars. It was very exciting and joyous to see thousands of Puerto Ricans celebrate their pride. If you looked down either direction of 5th Avenue, all you could see was a sea of waving Puerto Rican flags. It sent a chill up and down my spine to see so much joy and pride in our people. It was just one big block party on 5th Avenue.
